Two Ways Dads Who Game Can Win Their Kids

Here's a video of airman playing video games. They go hard. These dudes will spend hours at the console. Sweaty hands from gripping the controller. Red eyes from watching the TV. Today they're young men. One day they're fathers. If they keep playing Xbox as dads and continue to win games, can they also win their kids? The answer is yes x 2.

1. Involve

Gaming can be fun. You rally your friends. Beat the bad guy. Rescue the damsel. Save the day. It's a mystical adventure that proves to be enjoyable as evidenced by time spent. One way you can win your kids while gaming is by involving them, given that the game's appropriate. Sports games are always suitable. You can't go wrong there. However, if assassination-play is your thing, war-based games may be best. A military setting conveys you're fighting for justice as opposed to another setting that could convey you're fighting for pleasure. Thoughts?

2. Balance

Gaming can be time-consuming. You tell yourself you're going to play for one hour then you look and it's 1am. You can't stop. Gaming is like Lays chips. Which segues into my point: The same way we teach our kids to eat in moderation, we can show our kids to play in moderation. Gaming provides an opportunity for you to model balance. "After a little chores, we can play a little Playstation." Picture it, you're playing Madden with your daughter. It's Saturday afternoon. You set it to accelerated quarters. Play a quick game. You can let her win; that's up to you. Then you can say, "Great game little lady. We had our fun, now lets help make lunch." Look at there, a little fun, a little work. They're learning work-life balance at six.

Conclusion

If you game, you aim to win. And if you father, you better aim to win.

Practical Next Steps

  1. Talk the whole thing over with your baby's momma

  2. Upon mutual agreement proceed forth

  3. Take your child to GameStop to buy appropriate games

  4. Set a time limit with child before gaming

  5. Game

  6. Stick to time limit

  7. Lose on purpose

  8. Now do a chore
