Some Days Ago
Last Tuesday, my family was supposed to have a dinner party. My mom ended up canceling because she felt sick. I cancelled too and planned to rest at home. That's when Amanda called.
Negotiation
A: You should meet me at Panera, pick up Graciana, drive to Seven Hills and see your mom
P: I was going to rest
A: You should see your mom
P: She's sick
A: You should go
P: Yes dear
I Saw My Mom
She wasn't feeling well. Maybe I'll say more about that another time. Her and I started talking about deep stuff. She mentioned that she's about to be making a will. Okay. Then faith came up. She said she's been avoiding faith because she wants to avoid death. We cried. She continued, "I wouldn't even know where to begin with faith." I suggested prayer. I explained everything. She said yes.
Faithful Friend
My mom has questions and wants a friend. I set her up with a lady who said she'd love to get to know my mom. They're supposed to be meeting today. I talked to my mom on the phone about it. She was excited. I said, "Are you sure?" She said yes.
Conclusion
Solitary confinement is a punishment for a reason. No one wants to be alone. Life is better with others. Togetherness is key.
Practical Suggestions
Look at your to-do list today
Bring someone along with you
Fight the criticisms in your head
Adding someone makes things slower
Adding someone means I've got to talk to them all day
Adding someone means we have to awkwardly split the check at lunch
Adding someone will be good for you. Especially if it's your mom
