Can You Guess My Real Dad?
Happy Father's Day! Which do you think is mine? The top, middle or bottom guy? Let's hear it.
Did You Know?
The first recorded time a group of fathers were observed was in 1908. The Monongah Mining Disaster took 362 men and a local West Virginian church publicly mourned their loss. In 1910, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to celebrate her late-father and campaigned for recognition. Soon after, President Wilson and Coolidge caught wind and urged state governments to commemorate dads. Finally, Nixon made it official by signing a proclamation to make Father's Day a federal holiday.
Dads Can Be Challenging at Times So Here's a Timely Challenge
I challenge you to kick it up a notch this year with your pops. If you normally wish him a Happy Father's Day with a text, maybe this year you can make it a call? If you normally call, perhaps try facetiming? Or maybe a face-to-face encounter? A present? A letter? A hug? An I love you? Father's Day started from people who went out of their comfort zone. Dodd knocked on doors. People scoffed. The Great Depression was happening. But believers kicked it up a notch. That's how things get done. That's how relationships get restored.
Conclusion
I don't get to see my dad often. That's another blog. But I'm going to see him today because it's his day. Usually I get him a card and socks. I'll practice what I preach and get him something nicer this year. Maybe a new suite coat **.
